 Gardiner Basin - High Sierra

It doesnt get much better than a summer backpacking trip in the High Sierra. This photo is from a remote area called Gardiner Basin. At minimum reaching this spot is a two day hike in from the nearest trailhead. The first day on well established trails and the second being cross-country with map and compass. Gardiner is completely at or above tree line, so you need to go prepared for exposure to the elements and ever changing weather conditions. On this particular trip we spent about four days doing an off trail loop in August at the height of the camping season and never saw another person.
