Striped Marlin on Pacific Sardine Bait Ball

Late each year, tremendous masses of Pacific Sardine often pass inshore along the western coast of Baja Mexico. They intern attract huge numbers of pelagic species such Dorado, Marlin and Sailfish. Sea Lions and even whales also share the feast. Being dependent on the prevailing fall currents and water temperatures, this concentration of life is highly variable and may occur anywhere along hundreds of miles of remote Baja Coast. When it does happen, the Sardine become the popcorn of the sea. Driven to the surface they pack together into huge flowing masses called Bait Balls and are relentlessly hammered by gamefish from below and diving marine birds from above.
